Program Overview

In today's information society, reading comprehension and writing skills are essential for everyone. The English major offers a rich and varied education in these vital areas of literacy—serving the individual student, the academic community and society at large.

The program includes courses in literature and critical thinking, reading and writing to enhance communication skills, to deepen understanding of our cultural traditions, to provide a breadth of
knowledge appropriate for many degree and vocational programs and to prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions.

English majors often enter fields such as law, education, public relations, human services, journalism and corporate communications. To ensure that their transfer objectives are being met, English majors should consult with a counselor.

The graduate of the AA program in English will:

  • Be able to engage, with college level fluency, a variety of texts towards a variety of ends.

The administration of justice program inspired me to look at jobs I never thought I would find. My goal now is to transfer to a four-year university."
