Guiding Principles

  1. AHC will change the odds for students by continuing to provide quality instruction while improving time to completion.
  2. AHC will continue to value and appreciate equity and diversity.
  3. AHC will ensure a positive community presence by responding to community needs, including outreach to nontraditional students.
  4. AHC will strive to ensure fiscal integrity and management of resources by implementing sound scheduling practices based on relevant metrics and goals.

Priority Initiatives and Strategies

  1. Engage and support the Community
    1. Provide opportunities to high school students through concurrent enrollment
    2. Create a college-going culture
    3. Facilitate high school credentialing for adults
  2. Ensure Sufficient Institutional Capacity to Support Current and Future College Success
    1. Improve operational efficiency
    2. Optimize new funding formula to enhance revenue
    3. Expand and diversify funding streams
    4. Continue to monitor and assess student needs
    5. Enhance student success by providing a supportive physical environment
  3. Develop and Implement Strategies to Improve Student Completion
    1. Accelerate basic skills progression to college readiness
      1. Promote accelerated courses and summer bridge
      2. Maintain the Bridges to Success program and other collaborative meetings
      3. Explore the use of AB 288 to offer pre-collegiate courses in high schools
      4. Respond to AB 705
      5. Implement, promote, and evaluate Multiple Measures placement
    2. Develop, implement, and monitor retention strategies to ensure timely completion
    3. Implement Road Maps to Success (guided pathways)
    4. Implement the Promise Program to increase the college going rates of feeder high school students
    5. Explore scheduling practices such as weekend and emeritus college
    6. Reduce the cost of attending college by offering courses with zero textbook costs
    7. Increase completion of student outcomes, including transfer, degree and certificate completion, and job placement rates
      1. Develop partnerships with four-year colleges
      2. Enhance and expand services in the career and transfer center
      3. Increase and promote ADTs
  1. Provide Adequate Professional Development Training to Improve the Appreciation of Equity and Diversity
    1. Ensure opportunities for all employees to participate in professional development
    2. Provide cross-college training
    3. Recruit diverse applicant pools
