Fellow Recruitment
The Allan Hancock College Corps program collaborates with both campus and community partners to secure year-long paid fellowships for students. These fellowships revolve around addressing critical issues such as climate action, food insecurity, and K-12 education.
As a participant in the College Corps Fellowship, you will:
- Commit to a year of service, spanning from August through June, during which you will complete 450 hours of meaningful work. This commitment offers the opportunity to enhance your professional and educational skills, explore potential career paths, and expand your network of connections with community professionals
- You will dedicate approximately 12-15 hours per week at your host site.
- Engage in genuine, real-world job experiences that can significantly bolster and enrich your resume.
- Attend professional development training sessions and workshops to further your personal and career growth.
- Establish connections with fellow participants across the state through a virtual community platform and regional events.
- Receive financial support, up to $10,000 in a combination of a living stipend and educational award.
We welcome applications from students with diverse academic backgrounds, including AB-540 students and those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education.
Eligibility
Priority will be given to students who demonstrate financial need. As part of our commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as reducing educational opportunity disparities, we strongly encourage AB540 students, first-generation college students, and students with financial need to apply.
We are looking for dedicated students who possess:
- A passion for collaborating with communities to effect positive change.
- A growth mindset and eagerness to embrace new challenges.
- An interest in connecting with and learning from fellow students and partners throughout the state.
- A willingness to serve as ambassadors for the fellowship program both on campus and beyond.
Students selected for the fellowship should meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Qualify for a Federal Pell Grant.
- Qualify for a Middle-Class Scholarship or State Cal Grant.
- Are AB-540 Eligible Dreamer students with a California Dream Act application on file (no work authorization required).
- Require part-time work and/or student loans to cover educational costs.
Additionally, eligible students must:
- Be full-time students at Allan Hancock College for the Fall and Spring semesters (Typically 12 units).
- While there is no minimum GPA requirement, students must be in good academic standing.
- Commit to participating in the program for both the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Attend an in-person Fellow Orientation if selected.
- Attend and in-person Welcome Reception on campus.
- Be prepared to undergo potential interview with nonprofit organizations in Spring semester, if selected. These interviews will determine your site placements for the academic year. Detailed information about these interviews will be provided once students are selected for the program.
AB-540 Students
AB-540 students are eligible for this program if they:
- Have submitted a completed California Dream Act Application for the academic year.
- Is a Cal Grant A or B recipient.
AB-540 students accepted into the program will also be required to submit a California Dreamer Service Incentive Grant (DSIG) Application by August 1, to become eligible for the educational award.
