My experience at Oxnard College has been overall a pretty great one. Starting from a recent high school graduate who did not know what to major in my first year, my first exposure to Oxnard College was a Calculus class with a professor that made the subject easy to comprehend. As the following semesters progressed, I found myself struggling with my classes and sought help from professors, who were very willing to help me out. I have also joined multiple clubs and organizations and have found multiple people with similar interests and experiences to my own. All in all, I have found the community at Oxnard College to be one that is very supportive and open to diverse perspectives.
I have been interested in STEM ever since I was a toddler. Learning about how the world works in a physical, chemical, and mathematical aspect has caused me to venture into this topic as a child. I would watch documentaries and read encyclopedias on astronomy, biology, and technology growing up. My curiosity in STEM expanded as I went into high school, where I participated in the robotics club and delved into the science subjects in Academic Decathlon. However, my interest in engineering did not begin until I met with a career counselor and decided that Civil Engineering was the best suit for me. City planning and structures have been recent interests of mine, and with my gained knowledge in STEM, I hope to apply those interests into real life and design as well as build more sustainable infrastructure.
