Textbooks are Expensive! Let us help.

Books for Bulldogs has changed hands!  The way you receive books will change this fall semester. Instead of the Academic Resource Center as the point of contact, it will now be the Santa Maria Allan Hancock College Library! 

Books for Bulldogs is a free service that allows currently enrolled AHC students to borrow textbooks for an entire semester. To borrow books for a whole semester, students must register online.


Due to the COVID 19 stay-at-home order, for everyone's safety, books will be given by limited contact distribution and by scheduled times from August 17, 2020 through August 19, 2020 and August 21, 2020 based on our first-come, first-served online book request. Please see the schedule below to determine the appropriate time to pick up your requested item.

Please note: The Fall 2020 book request window will begin August 10, 2020. Be sure to log into the AHC Library online catalog early that day to search for and secure your textbook request. Because textbook supply is limited, there is no guarantee that requested books will be available. In order to pick up your books the first week of class, your book request needs to be made by August 15, 2020.

Rules and Guidelines:

  • Currently enrolled AHC students are eligible to borrow textbooks.
  • Three (3) textbooks limited per student.
  • There is no guarantee that requested textbooks will be available, as textbook supply is limited.
  • The program does not carry access codes or course packets.
  • Book orders are filled in the order requests are received.
  • Book requests start on August 10, 2020
  • Book requests must be submitted by August 14, 2020 in order to pick them up the first week of classes.

Before submitting a book request have available:

  • AHC Student ID
  • Current mailing address and phone number
  • Current detailed class schedule
  • A list of required books. You can find the required textbooks for your course by clicking on the CRN on class search and then “click to check textbook costs.”


Book returning just got a whole lot easier. Simply visit either the Santa Maria Campus or the Lompoc Valley Center Campus and put your book in one of the library’s book drops. It’s that easy. We’ll do all the rest.
