Hancock Hires Adam McEvoy As Women's Soccer Head Coach
McEvoy brings more than 10 years of coaching experience
MARCH 2, 2015--Pending approval from the Board of Trustees on March 17, Allan Hancock College has selected Adam McEvoy as the new head coach of the women’s soccer program.
“Adam really impressed us during his interview,” said Kim Ensing, the associate dean of kinesiology, recreation and athletics. “His teaching demonstration and the way he interacted with the students showed he had a tremendous amount of knowledge, organizational skills, enthusiasm and understanding of the game.”
McEvoy has more than 10 years of coaching experience at the high school, club, university and professional soccer academy levels in the United States or overseas. He served as the varsity girl’s soccer coach this past season at Righetti High School. McEvoy guided the Warriors to a 15-3-2 overall record and appearance in the C.I.F. playoffs.
Born in a small town in England, McEvoy was scouted by a professional club team at a young age and started training at an academy. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in sports coaching from the University of Central Lancashire in England.
“Soccer is a religion in England. The love of the game is in my blood,” said McEvoy. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to fulfill my dream of becoming a college coach in the United States. I am ready to step up to the challenge.”
McEvoy replaces Rod Garcia, who retired last November after seven seasons with the Bulldogs.
“My goal is to make Hancock’s women’s soccer program competitive again,” added McEvoy. “My coaching philosophy is that hard work beats talent. My practices are harder than the games.”
McEvoy plans to meet with high school and club coaches around the Central Coast to further develop a pipeline of talented athletes to the Hancock program.
“Adam will offer a fresh perspective. He is eager to tap into the pool of local talent to make the program more competitive and lend to the success of our student-athletes,” added Ensing.
McEvoy and his wife, Gianna, live in Santa Maria.
